Monkole a ouvert ses portes à Kinshasa en avril 1991 avec une petite équipe de médecins et d’infirmières. Un deuxième bâtiment a ensuite été construit pour accueillir les femmes enceintes et les enfants. Dix ans plus tard, il est devenu un hôpital de référence dans la région du Mont Ngafula I, dont dépendent 250 000 habitants.
