Nursing school of Monkole
The Monkole School of Nursing is very important for the Democratic Republic of Congo because of the shortage of health professionals dedicated to maternal and newborn health
The number of nurses of superior level and the number of midwives well-formed is very small in relation to the needs of the population, according to the international standards.
For the first 15 years, the Monkole School of Nursing (ISSI) offered only initial training (Bac+3) in nursing. In the evaluation of the training Institutions and top-level university in the D. R. of the Congo, 2011 the ISSI came out as the best one in Nursing in the country.
In 2012, they joined the group of pioneer institutions tolink training programmes to the european system (Licence-Master-Doctorate), establishing new programs in a pedagogical approach aimed at developing competences.
In 2017, the ISSI has 20 years of existence and experience training nurses well-prepared ( through its classrooms have already passed over 450 nurses) who exercise their profession in the D. R. of the Congo, mainly in Kinshasa.
We aim to give scholarships to 15 future nurses for the course 2020/2021 with 650€ to each one of them, a total of 9750€
The development of nursing in sub-saharan countries is very important for health care may come to have an acceptable quality; right now, according to the World Bank, the D. R. of the Congo has 0,961 nurses per 1000 inhabitants (in Spain 5,5)
The objective of Monkole and of the ISSI is to raise the quality of health care in the D. R. of the Congo and throughout Africa, and for this reason it is very important to train very good doctors and the nurses.
Since the Foundation of Monkole’s friend it has helped that the Hospitalcan continue taking care of the people without resources, and in the ISSI (Institut Supérieur en Sciences Infirmières) a good number of nurses get trained.
In this sense, the training of nurses is a strategic line in our Foundation.
